Five Tips to your Children and Television
Television can be one of the worst influences on your child. But this does not mean it should be! By following these tips you can help your child get the benefits of watching television without becoming a potato dazzled “small sofa.”
1. Establish limits on how much television your children watch. You should do this at a very young age, but even if your child is older and has already acquired the habit of watching TV too much, it’s not too late to start setting limits on TV watching time.
It is recommended that children under 18 months do not watch TV at all. While this may be difficult for you if you are a couch potato yourself, you may find that reducing TV is good for you too. For children between the ages of 18 months and three years, I recommend no more than 1 / 2 hours of television per day. And for 1 / 2 hour, you should choose something like Sesame Street.
For children aged 3 years and 6 years, I recommend you set the limit to 1 hour of television per day.
After the age of 6, you can set the limit at 2 hours. This limit should be good for your child throughout their developmental period. Once they reach their teens that you may want to be more lenient than the teenagers in May rebelling against too much control.
2. Watch TV with your child instead of just letting them look at themselves. When you watch TV with your child, they are less likely to visit a harmful “TV trance”. It’s good for you and your child to discuss what is on the screen. This will make the experience more exciting.
3. Never offer TV as a reward. TV you should not participate as something that “good children” Learn to watch. You must also choose not to remove the television as a punishment. When you use the TV as a punishment or a reward that it gives too much importance on TV in the first place.
4. Provide a positive example. If you watch much TV then obviously it will be much harder to convince your children not to do the same. 5. Select non-commercial projects for your children to watch. The most harmful to children’s television is not the programs themselves, they are advertising their desire to teach trash (both junk food and junk toys.) Either have your children watch PBS shows only or to watch videos that are free advertising! Commercials really rot children’s brains. Make sure your children are as free publicity as possible.
The negative impact of advertising is difficult to calculate. I think it is possible that much of the obesity problem of today’s children from advertising that make children junk food desire. Obviously make sure your children eat healthy is another matter, but I do believe that by making sure your children do not watch much TV commercials, you’ll be able to reduce their desire for bad food who will more easily obtain their consumption of healthy foods.
